City Council Accomplishments

This Past Year on Davis City Council has been a whirlwind, and together with my council colleagues and city staff, we’ve accomplished a lot.

Here are just some of the things I’ve been working on:

  • Addressing Homelessness: Requested the formation of a two-member subcommittee to address issues related to the L Street Daytime Respite Center, which serves individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Together, with my council colleague, we are working with community members and city staff to ensure that the respite center is viewed as a community asset and to address concerns about the impact the center has on surrounding neighbors.

  • Worked with Community Members to Address Concerns: I’ve had countless meetings with community members to hear their concerns about city and neighborhood issues. These meetings cover a wide range of issues – everything from potholes to addressing homelessness. I’ve been able to act as a conduit between community members and city staff and have been able to solve many problems, both big and small.

  • Advocated for Funding and Legislation that Would Benefit the City: Served on the two-member Legislative Subcommittee where we advocated for federal and state funding for the city and took positions on legislation impacting the city. This work resulted in an additional $1,000,000 for the planned Amtrak/Olive Drive undercrossing.

  • City Council Liaison for Advisory Commissions: Our city commissions provide great expertise to the city and I had the honor of serving as city council liaison to the Planning Commission, Finance and Budget Commission (now Fiscal), Natural Resources Commission, Utilities Commission (now Fiscal), Bicycling, Transportation, and Street Safety Commission, and the Yolo County Animal Commission. I attended nearly all meetings of each of these commissions and served as a conduit for information between city council and the commissions.

  • Making the City’s Investment Policy More Aligned with our Community’s Goals: I’m serving on the two-member council subcommittee which is developing revisions to the City’s investment policy to make it more consistent with our community’s social equity goals.

Along with my council colleagues and city staff, we’ve made great strides in many areas:

  • Update to the General Plan: We are embarking on the long overdue update to our city’s General Plan. This plan will set out our vision for Davis for the next decade or more and I cannot wait to get started.

  • Received Approval for our Housing Element: We’ve received approval from the State for the City of Davis Housing Element, which sets out the housing requirements, at various affordability levels needed to meet our regional housing needs

  • Economic Development is Back on Track: We’ve hired an Economic Development Director who is implementing a proactive approach to revitalizing our economic sector.

  • The City Continues to Seek Grant Funding to Support City Services: The city has received a $24 million grant to be used to apply a cool surface to roads.

  • Our Downtown Plan is Moving Ahead: We are moving ahead with the implementation of our Downtown Plan, which emphasizes mixed use development and infill.

Together, we are working hard to protect the things you love about Davis and to make it a sustainable, livable community for the future.
